2015 ~ A Recap on my Year!

Golden glitter

So a Recap of 2015… Well for me the year started off by seeing in the New Year celebrations in Liverpool, UK with my BFF of 28 years, with her family & friends – a mad & fun loving lot that I wish I could hang out with more often if it wasn’t so damn far to come visit…

Then next up I headed over to Ireland with my mom to visit her childhood hometown & family, I hadn’t been here since I was 6 yrs old… And it turned out to be a really special time to share with my mom, as she reminisced and talked about her childhood memories as we were sightseeing – it definitely was a totally different way of life back in the 1930s & 40s

After nearly two weeks around the Southern Ireland charm it was back to London… to say cheerio to my niece, and other family n friends…

“The London Underground” img_0251

Then it was back Down-under to OZ – to the heat, reality & work… but also after being away for nearly 3 months I was really looking forward to seeing my son and my dog again!

In hindsight it was a great trip, even with a few bad moments thrown in… It is a trip I wish I could do every year to see my family & dear friends, come on Lotto!

The rest of my year was filled with an emotional and educational growth

In Poetry I spread my wings more this Year… as I entered into the “NaPoWriMo Challenge” in April; I became apart of a Team on Facebook via my friend Angel Poet called “Poetry In Motion” – which ran weekly Poetry Challenges & I also helped administrate a New Blog called “Vagrant Poetry” via Facebook & WordPress set up via my friend Shawn D. Standfast.

Poetry In Motion =  Facebook

I also took on further studies in my Nursing career towards becoming a Registered Nurse and made some New friends along the way!

My Goodreads Reading Challenge was to read 104 Books, which I achieved and surpassed by reading 140 Books all up – the list of these books read are below!

My favourite all up read in 2015 would have to be the “Demonica” Series by Author Larissa Ione – it goes into really interesting concepts about The Apololypse, The Four Horsemen, Heaven, Hell, Angels, Demonslots of different types, Good vs Evil etcas well as being based around great story lines about finding your soul-mate and falling in love, but I found it enlightening and a thought provoking read!

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2015 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 13,000 times in 2015. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 5 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

April is National Poetry Month

Well April is the Month for Poetry ~ 30 Poems in 30 Days!!!

NaPoWriMo, or National Poetry Writing Month, is an annual project in which participating poets attempt to write a poem a day for the month of April.

The Website http://www.napowrimo.net/ is owned and operated by Maureen Thorson, a poet living in Washington, DC. Inspired by NaNoWriMo, or (National Novel Writing Month), she started writing a poem a day for the month of April back in 2003, posting the poems on her blog. When other people started writing poems for April, and posting them on their own blogs, Maureen linked to them. After a few years, so many people were doing NaPoWriMo that Maureen decided to launch an independent website for the project.

Poetry means different things to each of us… it is an appreciation of Poetry in the art of expression for those that like to write it and for those who like to read it!!! Challenges like this to me personally helps me to grow as a writer who is still in the early stages of learning! What I dearly love about Challenges like this is the bringing together of like minded people and their individual interpretations to the Prompts… I find it fascinating and it enriches my soul!

This Month as well as taking up the #NaPoWriMo Challenge of writing a Poem a day, I am going to try and Post a Poem a day from some of the Famous Poets that I have enjoyed reading over the years… I am behind already in this Challenge but aim to catch up quickly over the next week!!!

So please join me and let’s Celebrate Poetry Month together ~ by either taking up the Challenge, Reading, or just by spreading the word!

To start off this Challenge I thought I would share with you all some Poets that I have come across over the past few years since starting my Blog ~ Words Across the Oceans!

#IAB Campaign by V0Ella

The incredible Amanda Carrington the very talented lady behind V0Ella wrote this beautiful Poem above… as V0Ella Crew is currently running a Campaign called #IAB ~ I AM BEAUTIFUL Challenge asking their followers on Twitter & Facebook to send in a Photo, write a Poem or share their personal Stories on this subject of how we feel about ourselves and our bodies…. It’s really touching and inspiring so please go check it out!

I found this picture on the Internet and thought it summed up perfectly the Motto behind this Challenge but we need a Superman one too! 🙂

 Here are my entries

My #IAB Story:

I hit puberty at a younger age than the majority of girls do… I remember being the first in my class to get pubic hair and boobs… I hated going to swimming and having to change in front of the others because they would look, stare and point at me as if there was something wrong with me… Boys would also stare at my boobs when doing any training for sports… And when I got my periods I thought I was dying and didn’t tell my mom for a few days… So at that young and tender age of eleven/ twelve I really started to hate my body and didn’t want to become a woman at all!

Over the years I was never what I’d classify as model thin but I was thin and curvy but had always thought of myself as fat… when I had my son at the age of 20 I became very unwell with my Under-active Thyroid (Hashimoto’s Disease) and went from 57 kilos to nearly 90 in my pregnancy… in which I got to experience how people do actually treat you differently when you become overweight… I experienced this from my sons father to certain family members and even some friends… I am now in my 40’s and I have never really got that extra weight off… which has held me back in life from pursuing certain things as I have always felt I’d be judged by others…

Anyways moving on as the years have flown by since then and with all the lessons you learn along the way… the good, the bad and the ugly… you learn to pick yourself up, dust yourself off and see life from a different perspective… especially in my job as a Nurse… time is precious… And people who like to sit in glass houses and judge others for their personal choices in life or by their beauty, scars and flaws… I have come to realise really have no idea about living life to the full and are missing out on special treasures because of their narrow-mindedness!

“So my motto is to embrace myself, people, life and living”

My #IAB Poem:

I am flawed
I am not perfect
But I am coming to accept me for who I am…

For it is not what I perceive to be perfect
That wakes up everyday
To face the world in which I live…

Who tries to lends a hand to others
Especially the sick and thoughs in need of care
Through my job…

It is the “I AM BEAUTIFUL” me
Just as I am
With my imperfections…

And that is perfectly alright!
